Review: La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5.. I think I found the one | Gin and Glow

After multiple birthdays, I feel like my skin type has shifted, it used to be oily but now it's drier. I've also started using retinoids more often so I'm gravitating towards thicker moisturizer these days.

I'm not new to this brand, La Roche-Posay, and I'm not new to this product, I've used it before when I was 17 and taking isotretinoin. I used it on my eczema patches as well. I stopped using it because I stopped taking isotretinoin and back then La Roche-Posay wasn't available in Indonesia, but since they entered the nation, oh boy.

In other words, this review will tell you several different reasons on why you'll love this severely underrated product ;)

The product is described as a multifunction balm to comfort, protect and nourish mildly irritated skin. It can be used on babies (as young as 1 week old), children and adults. It claims to help with redness, pain, tightness and any discomfort that comes with skin irritation.

It contains some brilliant key ingredients such as Madecassoside (that stuff you get from centella asiatica), 5% Panthenol (a personal favorite of mine, very calming, anti-bacterial, and is a humectant & emollient at once), Zinc gluconate (anti-bacterial, you don't want germs on 'broken' skin) and Shea butter (another personal favorite, moisturizing but non comedogenic, an occlusive, lock that moisture in, babe). Oh and like other La Rohce-Posay products, it contains the La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water.

The packaging is a squeeze tube with a flip cap. No dipping involved. If you're *almost* out of it, just cut the tube and depot lol.

It has a very nice texture. Yes, it is quite thick, but it's very easy to blend and it doesn't feel sticky or greasy on the skin. Some people often associate thicker textures with oiliness and pore-clogging, but you'd be surprised if you google the full ingredients list, there's nothing comedogenic in it. In other words, it is thick so it can offer you the hydration & moisture you need while protecting your skin, but it's thick in a good way because it's non-greasy. It may look like you have a white cast at first but it goes away by itself.

I know that it is designed for "mildly irritated skin", but I've been using this non stop, day and night as a moisturizer. Doesn't matter if my skin's irritated or not, I'll always reach for this as my moisturizer. Why? I'm glad you ask..

As I mentioned before, my skin is on the drier side so the thicker texture actually works in my favor. If you have oily skin, you might want to apply a thinner layer or just use this exclusively at night. No it's not gonna "clog your pores".

This is incredibly calming. I had chemical peel done in-office and I ran out of topical steroids, so I used this one instead and it worked just fine. If it can handle post-peel redness & dryness & tingles, it sure can handle other form of "irritation". I've used in on my eczema patches too and it works super well. I'm on prescription retinoid right now and this has been a game changer for me.

This baby contains a nice combination of ingredients. When I say unique, I meant it. It has some humectants (glycerin and panthenol), emollient (again, pantehnol) and occlusive (shea butter). So it provides hydration and moisture, and on top of that it has the ability to seal in those hydration & moisture perfectly. To make it even better, it's calming. So you get all day long hydration and moisture while it also calms your skin and minimize those redness, pain, itchiness, dryness and all that jazz.

I'm not against fragrance, but when my skin is red and raw, I would rather avoid it. Thankfully, this does not contain any fragrance (and it doesn't smell foul, usually fragrance free products smell horrible but this one doesn't smell like anything). It also does not contain any fancy/weird botanical extracts and oils that may further irritate your skin. It's a winner.

Will I repurchase this? Yeah, absolutely. After these photos were taken I've gone through 2 more tubes of this. I personally think this is a very good moisturizer, it ticks all the boxes (hydration, moisture, calming), the texture works well on my skin. It still feels nice under sunscreen and makeup. It doesn't cause greasiness but at the same time it is still nourishing for my skin. It can be used on the face and any other body parts, even the lips. Do you need this? Yeah, at least give it a try. I literally stopped looking for "the perfect moisturizer" after using this. Because this one's way cheaper than those fancy creams and it works better anyway.

Anyway, I'm going to sign off now, I'm really invested in this new Kanye documentary on Netflix.
