Review: Buttered by For Skin Sake | Gin and Glow

Have you ever bought some drugstore lip balm and discovered that it's ughhh and it leaves a weird film on your lips? Have you ever tried some highly praised lip balm only to find out it's not moisturizing enough? I'm sure we've all been there. But Buttered, is something else...

Buttered is a range of lip balms created by the Indonesian beauty brand For Skin Sake. Buttered originally has 4 different flavors - peppermint, cherry, coconut and unscented, but they decided to release more flavors back in early August.

I know it's a little too late to review these babies, but whatever, it's worth reviewing. Every one of you, especially you Indonesians, have to know about it.

So far I have a lot of these lip balms, I have watermelon, coffee, strawberry, vanilla latte, peppermint and raw honey. Here's a hint, these are the lip balms you'll crave.. Keep reading if you're interested.

Here are some facts about Buttered:
  • Most of the ingredients are the same, organic sunflower oil, organic beeswax and organic vitamin E, the only differences were the flavors and SPF 15.
  • As mentioned before, not all Buttered lip balms have SPF 15. The ones with SPF are Citrus, Lemonade, Watermelon, Vanilla, Strawberry, Peppermint, Coconut, Cherry and Unscented.
  • Despite For Skin Sake being a vegan brand, Buttered are not vegan since they have beeswax in it, so they're just vegetarian.
Okay so right now I have 6 Buttered lip balms, they basically do the same thing - moisturize the lips. So I'm just going to review them in general.

Buttered comes in this cute little plastic packaging that you twist - like a lipstick, completed with the clear plastic cap. The variants with SPF 15 are labelled "SPF 15" on the packaging. The packaging is pretty simple and compact that it fits in my pocket, my bag, or the compartments in my bag.

Why do I love this little lip balms so much? The texture. Even though Buttered has a light texture compared to other occlusive lip balms, Buttered is incredibly nourishing and it doesn't leave any residue or film on the lips. Feels like I'm not wearing lip balm at all. Buttered doesn't interfere with the application of any lip products like lipsticks and glosses, Buttered has no colour/tint and no noticeable shimmers. I mean they're lip balm, they're made out of oils and beeswax, of course they give a nice little sheen but no glittery shimmery stuff.

Anything I don't like about Buttered? Nope. I love Buttered. Yes there are cheaper lip balms in the market but are they carefully formulated like Buttered? Don't think so.

Will I repurchase Buttered again? Yes. Definitely yes. If any of you are Indonesian or living in Indonesia, you have to try Buttered. I feel like it's so much better than those drugstore lip balms, it has better formula and it's not just a tub of petroleum jelly. If you haven't tried this, you're missing out, babe.

These lip balms are IDR 45,000 and you can find them at For Skin Sake and Sociolla.
